The Trinity Window
|
| The original Trinity Window, installed when the sanctuary of Central United Methodist Church was built in 1967, contains traditional Christian symbolism. The eye of God reminds us of His providential care. The dove characterizes the Holy Spirit. The early church used the fish as a symbol because the Greek letters of the word for "fish", ICHTHYS, came to mean...I-Jesus; CH- Christ; TH- God; Y- Son; S- Savior. The circle stands for the continuation of life eternal. The anchor characterizes Christian hope, Hebrews 6:19. The first two letters of a Greek work for Christ XPCTOC is used to form the traditional monogram pictured in the lower right corner of the window. The cross binds all theses Christian Symbols together in a unified design. In 1988, the stained glass windows on the sides of the sanctuary were added to symbolize events in the life of Jesus. |
